HELP START A NEMBA Explorer KIDS PROGRAM

From: www.nemba.org
NEMBA recognizes the importance of programs that cater to the needs and interests of children. Many NEMBA chapters have hosted kids rides in the past. Most major rides include at least one route for families and children. For example, the Annual Blue Hills Mountain Bike Day has nearly as many children as adults. NEMBA has not had formal programs for children, nor policies to organize kids rides. We do now.

NEMBA Explorers is an initiative that assists NEMBA Chapters with organizing rides and programs for children. NEMBA Explorer programs can also be started by individuals and groups outside of NEMBA chapters. There are now answers to the main questions of liability and how to host a safe and fun ride.

We hope these youth programs can be as individual as the adults running them and the children involved. Children might be able to help maintain trails and have hours of fun riding. They might learn to fix their bikes or improve their map reading and riding skills. Any activity that a local NEMBA Explorer Program may want to start would be welcomed and encouraged. The only limit is the program’s creativity.
